6 Things To Do To Start Your Online Art Therapy Business

How do you get started with your online art therapy business? Well, here is the post that will answer this exact question.

My name is Youhjung, and I’m a board certified art therapist who love to help fellow art therapists and creative healers have a profitable online business.

Starting a business is NOT an easy feat. If you’ve always been an employee and are new to business, there’s a lot to learn when you start out. So I’m here to make it easy!

I built my own 100% online business where I see clients online and use social media as the main way to gain clients. I’ll share with you the 6 big steps you may need to take to start your own online business and set yourself up for success.

  1. Choose your business name and claim your name and url’s

First things first! You want to choose your business name and claim your url and other social usernames.

The earlier you do this the better! (You want to make sure you can claim your unique business name before others do).

Come up with a name that embodies you and your services. It can be creative, but make sure it’s clear (not ambiguous or vague).

If you have a hard time with this, brainstorm all the words that come to your mind, let it sit for a few days and see which one you feel most drawn to.

You can also just choose your name as your business name. Nothing wrong with that :)

2. Know your business goal and mission

The second thing you want to do is identify your business goal and mission. Without this, you are like a ship without a destination.

What are you here for? Clearly define your mission and why you’re doing this work and this type of business. If not, this will likely be a hobby, not a business.

When you don’t have that lighthouse, that north star, you most likely will have a hard time being persistent in your business. We all need a bigger picture, a bigger goal in mind when we do something important.

Make sure you write your mission down somewhere. Writing it out makes it a powerful declaration!

3. Identify your ideal client⁣

The next thing to do is identifying your ideal client. Which means knowing who you specifically serve.

When you know this, your messaging & your content can be effective & enticing for the right people who are ready to work with you. ⁣

I think a lot of the times we start out our business with the mind of “I’ll help everyone!” but this often dilutes our efforts to clearly communicate to our clients the value we hold.

When you clearly and specifically know who YOU serve, you become a powerful magnet to the type of people that may be a great client for you.

4. Create an enticing offer ⁣

The fourth step is to get clear on what it is that you’re offering for your clients.

Since you know your specific ideal client, you now want to make sure your offer or service actually tailors to that ideal client.

A general “art therapy session” does not communicate much value to a potential client. But a session that helps clients with ____, will communicate much more value easily, for example.

This is exactly what I help art therapists with in my Visionary Art Therapists Membership. We go in-depth on creating an enticing service that will attract clients and make your business profitable month to month. This is such an important part of building an online business.

You want your service to be unique because that will make your offering more in demand! ⁣Not to mention, it eliminates competition.

5. Have a marketing plan

Most of doing business is about being intentional about everything you do. And this step is no exception. Be intentional and have a marketing plan.

Figure out how you’ll market and share about your services with the world. Have a clear strategy to implement so that your efforts are actually moving the needle in your business and getting you clients. ⁣

When you don’t share or market about your services, who will know about it? It makes it super difficult for potential clients to actually sign up for your services.

Without a marketing strategy, it can be hard for your business to have consistency and reliability in income because you won’t know where your next client will come from!

So make sure you have an idea how you can market your services so that you can make your business a profitable one.

6. Start sharing & creating content⁣

The last piece of the puzzle for your online business set-up involves creating and sharing content!

We are really talking about online business here. And the backbone of an online business is online CONTENT. Without it, you won’t have an audience, a community. You won’t have a “brand.” You won’t have a presence.

So that’s why you want to start sharing valuable content through social media or whatever platform you’ve decided to use to build your online presence. Content is what will make people interested in you & what you offer!

And of course, there are ways to make content that attracts clients and make them pay attention and then there is content that’ll let them ignore you and go onto the next interesting thing.

It’s an art and science to figure out how to make your content enticing and really work FOR you and your business.

I actually go in-depth on creating client-attracting content and all the other steps I mentioned above within my Visionary Art Therapists Membership, which includes a self-paced online course + ongoing group coaching that will show you how to start your dream online art therapy business using social media.
